Syphon Filter
Reviewed by Greatest One
Syphon Filter is an action game with the essence of Metal
Gear Solid. Both games featured anti terrorist spies as the
lead characters. Both games had a bad guy who was out to
destroy the world. Both games were just a whole lot of fun.
In Syphon Filter, you take on the role of Gabriel Logan, the
best operative for the agency, a anti-terrorist group. Your
mission is to stop Erich Rhoemer from spreading the deadly
Syphon Filter viruse across the world. The game features
numerous levels which are mission based. During each
mission, more objectives and parameters get added to keep
them fresh. It is up to Logan, with some help from his
partner, Lian Xing to thwart Rhoemer's plans.
You have an array of weapons to choose from. Your most basic
weapon is the taser which electrocutes your oppoponents.
This is a nice upgrade from the generic knives and punches
of other similar games. You also use other weapons such as
machine guns, sniper rifles, night vision rifles and grenade
launchers. The sniper rifle in this game is probably the
best sniper rifle I have seen in any game.
Most of the missions require you to just achieve your
objectives by killing everyone who gets in your way. But,
there are a few missions which require you to be sneaky and
not let anyone see you ala MGS. These levels are nicely
designed and you really feel like a spy. Metal Gear Solid
and Syphon Filter are both great games with great stories
and its hard to choose between them. The best option is to
just get both.
Graphics: 8.
The graphics ar cool, although they could be better. The
explosions are really awesome and the fmv's are very
beautiful. Watching enemies go down after a head shot is the
greatest feeling in the world.
Sound: 8.
The music and sound effects are first-rate. The only flaw (if
you call it a flaw) is the bad acting in the game. But such
games and movies are supposed to have bad acting.
Gameplay: 10.
This is a lot of fun. You run around shoot people. You can
do it while rolling, swinging or crouching. The game is
pretty easy overall, but a lot of fun.
Replay Value: 9.
Although you get nothing new from playing the game over
again, it still is fun to run around and kill terrorists in
different ways.
Overall: 9 out of 10
The comparisons to Metal Gear Solid shows how good this game
is. Even without them, it is a great game.
