Resident Evil 2: Dual Shock Edition
Reviewed by Dyson Turner
What can I say about RE 2? My first and favorite of the 3.
This one has what the other 2 didn't. The graphics are
better than the first; the story is better than the 3rd. The
only real difference between this and the original Re2 is
the fact that it had the dual shock ability.
Story
Leon
A new cop who just got transferred from To Raccoon City. The
force needed help they were mysteriously disappearing.
Anyway he's driving getting away from zombies when he runs
into Claire. Leon tries to take Claire back to the precinct
with them but a truck or something smashes the car, and they
get separated. You Start Here
Claire
After hearing of her brother Chris Redfield's disappearance
she goes to the city where he use to be an officer at
Raccoon City. She finds a zombie and runs into a diner.
Where she finds Leon, Leon gives her a gun and almost gets
back to the station, where they run into a truck. You Start Here.
Graphics
These graphics are way better than the pixilated original
RE. Not as fine as RE3 but they get the job done. The
Characters are a little bigger than they were in RE1 and a
little more detailed. The backgrounds have vastly improved,
it really looks a lot like a police department. Tyrant my
favorite of the 3 villains through the series in this one too.
Sound
There was little to no music. The music was slightly
difference in this version than in the original, for some
reason they put a little low dark song during parts of the
games where there was low or different music. I'm glad they
left this aspect of the game untouched. Too much music would
have ruined the suspense. It makes the game scarier even
though it's scary enough for me.
GamePlay
this game is for 1 player only. It is a survival horror
game, you get weapons throughout the game and the suspense
is high. Now with the Dual Shock its even better, though it
doesn't quite scare the pants off of you because if you were
an original RE2 freak like me you'll know when some thing is
coming. It still is kind of scary. You don't have all the
fancy moves like RE3 so you got to be quick when you're
facing a pack of zombies. You get cool weapons like an arrow
gun, shotgun, grenade launchers, and a practically useless
knife. This game is just plain fun, killing zombies,
figuring out puzzles. The difficulty is adjustable, but
hardcore players keep it on normal. This game had a save
feature, which you used via a typewriter and ribbons.
Overall 8 out of 10
This game just plain rules. With 2 CD's and different
outcomes it really boost the replay value higher than any
other Resident Evil. The graphics do seem a little more
touched up than the original RE2 and so does the voices. Is
this enough to make you purchase a new one? No, unless you
got to have everything RE like me, then this really isn't
for you. If you don't have the original then this was is
just a little bit better. All your old RE2 saves can be used
here, and this one does have a few more extra secrets
squeezed in. New comers to the RE series might get a kick
out of this.
