NBA Live 2000

It is very hard to make a realistic and fun basketball game
at the same time. Basketball games are usually pretty boring
and aren't a lot of fun. But, NBA Live 2000 is different
from other basketball games. Other games have ridiculously
easy computer opponents and very few modes to keep the game
interesting. But Live 2000 changes that.
The computer is still not very challenging, but it is okay.
Defense seems to play a bigger role in this game than other
basketball games. Where NBA Live 2000 excels is in its
variety of modes. One of the best modes is the one-on-one
mode in which you can challenge another player to a game of
one-on-one. The cool thing is that there are a bunch of NBA
legends in this mode who can be unlocked by defeating them.
These legends include Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, Dr J,
and even Michael Jordan. Once you beat the player, he is
unlocked and can be added to any team.
There is also a career mode in which you can take a team
through multiple seasons. Players age and their abilities
increase or decrease with time. You can make critical roster
moves to try and build your own dynasty. There are also a
lot of stats tracked during the season and it is always fun
to try and get your players on the leaderboard.
Overall this is a very good basketball game and easily the
best so far.
Graphics: 9.
The players all look realistic right down to the names on
the back of their jerseys. All the NBA arenas are present
and they all look very realistic.
Sound: 8.
The music is pretty cool, and commentary during the game is
pretty good too.
Gameplay: 9.
The controls are surprisingly smooth and the game doesn't
feel sluggish. The computer is tougher than previous years,
but still can be beaten pretty easily.
Replay Value: 10.
Sports games always have high replay values and this is no
exception. The addition of the one-on-one mode is simply
brilliant.
Overall: 9 out of 10
It is easily the best basketball game so far. If future
basketball games can improve on this, it would be awesome.
