Mortal Kombat 3
Reviewed by Dyson Turner
Mortal Kombat 3 for PSX was a very good arcade port of a
game that sholdn't of made it pass the cutting room floor.
I'm one of the biggest MK fans their is but this has next to
none redeemable qualities nothing real interesting and just
basically a flat game.
Story 2/10
Shao Khan won last year's tournament, and he has opened the
gates to the outerworld and Earth, your Earth warrior job is
to rid the world of Shao Khan and win that tournament for
some personal gain as well.
Visuals 8. 5/10
I can't complain here the graphics look stellar. They
actually look like Ultimate MK3 graphics which were better
than this so I have to say this catagory was great and it
showed me and the rest of the world the full power of the
Playstation.
Audio 7. 5/10
Arcade Perfect sounds and even came off with a higher
resolution because it was CD quality. The opening music made
you feel like you were actually in the Arcades playing this
game. The funny male screams were left in the game and they
were still high pitched, you can't help that. The music that
plyed during the opening was spectacular and you couldn't
ask for me.
Game Play -10/10
How dumb can I be? When I bought this I was still under the
impression that I wasn't playing A CD based system. So I
pick my favorite charcter Shang Tsung, and didn't even
realize that there was a horrific loading time between each
morph. Not the usual one second or two I'm talking about 5
seconds at least which really really hampered the gameplay.
After a while you will totally disable Shang Tsung morphs.
That really hampers the game play considerably for a person
who utilizes Shang Tsung's morphs like a bandit in the
night. Other than that the game played quite like the arcade
with every juggle combo and special move, if it was in the
arcade then you will find it here. The A. I. was slightly
better than the Arcade version as well, they didn't fall for
the same tricks the Arcade did unless you put it on real
easy. Their was a save game feature via the Memory Card.
Overall 4 out of 10
This game was a disgrace to the name Mortal Kombat. Not that
this version was bad its just the premise of the game ruined
the series. The 4th MK was even worst surpisingly so if you
loved MKII you might as well stick to MKII. The replay value
depends on if you like this game or not I really didn't so I
would have to say its low. MK fans might like this and you
would have to really like MK to like this game.
