Medal of Honor
Reviewed by Greatest One
Ever since Goldeneye came out, Playstation fans have been
waiting patiently for a similar game to hit their console.
Many games have tried to do that, but have fallen short of
Goldeneye's brilliance. Now, there is a new game trying to
do the same, and from what it looks like, Medal of Honor may
have succeeded.
MoH is a first person shooter set during WWII. You are
officer James Patterson and have been recruited by the OSS
to help the allied powers thwart the Nazi plans for world
domination. Most of the missions include infiltrating enemy
property and destroying weapons. Some missions require you
to rescue another officer or find out the Nazi plans. All
the missions are excellently presented and look great. You
have a bunch of realistic weapons to choose from. The enemy
AI in this game is incredible. When an enemy spots you, he
first calls for backup before firing at you. Also, he does
everything possible to prevent being hit. He may duck, roll
on his belly or hide behind crates. The enemies show
realistic reactions upon being hit. If you shoot a guy in
the foot, he will hop around. If you shoot his hand, he will
grab it. If you shoot at his head, he will die instantly.
The enemies are very clever too. If you throw a grenade near
them, they will scramble for cover, or kick the grenade
away. Sometimes, they may even pick it up and throw it back.
One of the great things about Goldeneye is the multiplayer
mode. This mode is also present in MoH and although it isn't
as great, it still is pretty good. There are 7 different
arenas to fight in and a few different weapon sets to choose
from. There are a bunch of characters to pick from, but they
all have the same abilities. There aren't as many modes in
multiplayer as there was in Goldeneye. Still, it is the best
of its kind on the Playstation.
Overall, Medal of Honor is a remarkable game that every
Playstation fan would not want to miss.
Graphics: 9.
The surroundings look realistic and beautiful. Enemies are
cool looking and little things, like the helmets flying off
when shot, make the graphics seem that much better.
Sound: 10.
The sound is unbelievable in this game. Haunting music sets
the mood for the levels and you can hear the Nazis talking
to each other. The sound effects are awesome as every weapon
sounds great.
Gameplay: 9.
The game plays similar to Goldeneye. The levels are overall
pretty easy, but trying to get all the medals and 3 stars
require some skill.
Replay Value: 10.
Even after you finish the missions, you still have to go
back to try and earn the different medals and get three
stars, which give you secret options. Also, if you are
bored, you can always have a game of multiplayer.
Overall: 9 out of 10
I never thought a game could match Goldeneye. MoH does and
in some ways is even better than Goldeneye.
