King of Fighters '97
Reviewed by Clement Chan Zhi Li
This game called The King of Fighters 97 is certainly a good
and fun game but took a lot of elements from other games
too, making it not really an original game.
Graphics - 9
The graphics throughout the game are fine for a Playstation
game, with hundreds of colours used in backgrounds,
characters, animations and others. The background are
animated, with an interesting feature. When you play the
Team Battle mode, look at the background carefully and
you'll notice two out of your three chosen characters will
be behind at the background, supporting and cheering you
(including feeling sad when you lose).
Music - 8
There are no background music (it sounds none because it
seems to be too soft) and when you play, you'll hear nothing
except the loud sound effects produced by your characters
when moving or attacking. The only background music I heard
was the 'Choose your Character' screen which is dramatically loud.
Gameplay - 8
This is not original at all since it copied certain moves
from other fighting games similar to this. Example, Choi
which has sharp claws and his fighting technics are similar
to Wolverine in X-Men related games. There are over 27
characters to choose which seem to be quite a lot to master
them all. One thing I find good for this game is that the
attacks are quite powerful. There are lots of battle modes
to play, Team Battle Mode, Versus Mode and many others. You
may take a lot of time exploring all the options there.
Replayability - 8
There seem to be no end to this game, what with the over 20
characters. Playing with other friend, espeacially in Team
Battle Mode.
Overall - 7 out of 10
A good fighting game and fun but not original. Decide
yourself whether to buy it or not.
