Crash Bandicoot
Reviewed by Greatest One
Every console needs a character who would give the system
some personality. Nintendo had the funny plumber, Mario and
Sega had the lightning quick hedgehog, Sonic. Thus, when the
Playstation was being developed, a character called Crash
Bandicoot was also in the works. When the game, Crash
Bandicoot was released, the guys at Sony Knew they didn't
make a mistake. Crash has helped propel Sony to the top of
the video game market.
The story of the game revolves around a rejected test
specimen, Crash Bandicoot. His sister has been captured by
the evil Neo Cortex and it is up to Crash to save her. The
gameplay is a bit similar to Mario, in that you have to
often jump on enemies to kill them. Crash also has a spin
move to fend off other enemies. Mario had coins and Sonic
had rings. Similarly Crash also has to collect a specific
item on his journey which gives him extra lives. This item
is an apple shaped fruit, which can be found by breaking
boxes, killing enemies or just lying around.
There are a lot of different levels in the game, which
require you to do different things. One requires you to ride
on a hog across the level, while another asks you to evade a
rolling boulder. Why? I don't know. These games never made
much sense to me, but are pretty entertaining though. The
bosses are funny, and have different ways of killing you.
Overall, this game is decent, but Crash doesn't hold the
charm of Mario or Sonic.
Graphics: 6.
The graphics are cartoony, but they are supposed to be like
that. The colors are very bright, and will appeal to kids.
Sound: 6.
The music is annoying and the sound effects are strange. But
some levels have decent music.
Gameplay: 7.
The game isn't too easy, nor is it too hard. It can get
boring though.
Replay Value: 7.
You can unlock other levels and sub-levels by achieving
perfect status in the levels. This makes it worth coming
back for more.
Overall: 7 out of 10
Sonic and Mario were better, but Crash is pretty cool too.
