3Xtreme

3Xtreme is an interesting game that looks like it has
potential. I mean who doesn't love moving at high speeds and
getting huge air. The coolest and most Xtreme way to do this
is on one of these: A skateboard, a bike or on rollerblades.
3Xtreme provides all this and this was enough to make me buy
the game. Unfortunately, soon after, I realized that this
game is like a lot of things in life: it looks good at
first, but isn't that great after all. The game quickly
loses its charms due to no innovation. All you can do is
skate down a bunch of different courses and pull off some
unreal moves. The different game modes are just a disguise-
they are all the same with some minor quirks. The tricks
also are a disappointment as they require as much skill as
any bad fighting game. It is all button mashing. The more
buttons you press while you are in the air, the more points
you get. This just gets boring after a while.
Graphics: 4.
The characters all look like stick figures, with the only
difference being their clothes. The courses all seem too
similar and the animation is choppy and suffers from a lot
of pop-up.
Sound: 6.
The music isn't bad, but it isn't great either. The sound
effects are below average, hence the below average score.
Gameplay: 6.
The game is too easy and is fun for a while. The lack of
difficulty, quickly makes you lose interest, though. Also
the computer AI isn't good.
Replay Value: 4.
What's the point of going through the boring career mode to
unlock other racers, when you can just input codes for them?
That makes the already bad career mode even worse. Playing
head-to-head is the only decent factor about this game.
Overall: 5 out of 10
Would be less for non extreme sports fans. Worth a rental
for fans of the X-Games, though, as the game is fun for only
a couple of days.
