SNK's answer to Street Fighter, the World Heroes series has never gotten as much recognition as SNK's other franchises like Fatal Fury and King of Fighters, but that doesn't mean it wasn't any less deserving. World Heroes Anthology includes World Heroes, World Heroes 2, World Heroes 2: Jet, and World Heroes Perfect; all of which have been more than faithfully re-produced for this PS2 compilation. That in itself is where this collection's biggest flaw also lies: some of these games haven't aged too well. The first World Heroes game is as archaic as can be in terms of its controls and playability, with the second game suffering a majority of the same problems. World Heroes 2: Jet improves a bit, and World Heroes Perfect is by far the best game on the collection with its fast moving fighting gameplay and well-animated sprites. Like the previous PS2 SNK compilations, there isn't a whole lot else to be found on the disc in terms of extras (besides a color editor), but for the budget price tag, you pretty much get your money's worth here, especially if you're an old school, 2-D fighting gamer. All in all, World Heroes Anthology is worth picking up if you're a fan of SNK's various franchises, but for others, proceed with some caution.

SNK to me got this one right. The Fatal Fury Collection to me was done well and Art of Fighting I just didn't care for. World Heroes to me is done perfect and are exact arcade port overs. This collection features all four arcade perfect versions of World Heroes. To those who don't know. World Heroes is SNK's version of Street Fighter. Some may argue that it's a carbon copy. But one thing for sure is this. If you enjoy the SF style of play. World Heroes would not disappoint. One difference between them is the control set up. It only uses the SF 6 button style on World Heroes Perfect. The others use a punch, kick, and grab button. The strength of the attack is determined on how hard you press the buttons. It also has a second mode which is called death match. This mode takes place in a ring, land mines and other things come into play.
This collection to me is the best yet. The controls are very responsive. I found no problem at pulling off moves. Except ultimate special moves will require some practice. I still find them just as simple because I played the arcade versions so much. This anthology is complete with a practice mode and moves list for each character. It also has a BGM feature to listen to all of the stage songs.
World Heroes, this is the first one of course. This one features 8 characters. All these charcters resemble Street Fighter in some way. Control wise this is the only one that seems a bit sluggish. This is especially noticed when using one of the ninjas.
World Heroes 2, this one features 6 new characters. The moves list is still the same for the most part. However this one is faster and the controls are far more responsive and fluid. Plus the attack button links a combo. The special mode here is a death match style scenario. With the match decided in 10 count ko victory. The players life bar is shared in a tug o' war style.
World Heroes 2 Jet, features 2 new characters and this one takes place in a tournament. You face a certain amount of characters per round to advance. The controls are just as good as in World Heroes 2.
World Heroes Perfect, this is the second best of the 4 to me. And this is the only one that uses the 6 button feature. But this one I have to reconfigure, the control set up is just too bizarre for me. It has two special move bars. One that can be used when near death and another can be used when the power gauage is full.
This is an excellent collection and my favorite from SNK to date. This is a great fix for those who beat SF like a million times and looking for something a bit of different.
