Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Great for single player, but the multiplayer in the PS2 version is broken
Buyer beware: there is no co-op quickplay in the PS2 version of this game. The single-player is fine (although it lacks the DLC of the current-gen versions), but if you want to play co-op, you need to start a co-op career mode band and unlock ALL the songs ALL OVER AGAIN. Cheat codes are no help either. I understand this issue has been fixed with a downloadable patch on the 360 version, but us PS2 owners have been kind of left out to dry.

The track list is incredible, though, so if you'll primarily be playing single-player, it's still a good buy.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fun, though I miss the Grim Ripper character
I know people think this edition of guitar hero is focused too much on metal, but I have to disagree. One thing I do have a problem with is why they couldn't use better songs by certain bands. Like the killers have way better songs that are more likely more fun to play than "When we were young." And can someone please explain to me how the Beastie Boys, Killers, Smashing Pumpkins, Stevie Ray Vaughn qualify as metal? Heck Pearl Jam and Queens of the Stone Age and Heart don't qualify as metal either.

I find the game fun, a bit harder than previous installments. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get five stars on everything on the hard level.

My main complain is something that happened to me with GHII as well. The memory card data randomly became corrupted. Just after me and my boyfriend finally got all the way through the Co Op career mode on easy (the most boring level). How aggravating since we went through all that trouble!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Worth every penny!!
I try to wait until most games have been out a little while to allow prices to go down a bit before buying, but my son has enjoyed all of the guitar hero games so much I bought this as soon as I saw it on Amazon. He has really liked this one even more (if that's possible) than the others. I hightly recommend it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great gameplay, not so great realism
Guitar Hero 3 for the PS3 is a great game especially if u have already played GH 1 and/or 2. This game is for experienced guitar hero gamers because the difficulty is a lot harder than past guitar heros. the level difficulty of hard on GH3 is almost as hard as expert on GH2. So if u r a beginner playing guitar hero u should probably consider getting the 2nd one just because of the easier difficulty and the practice mode (which GH1 doesn't have)

Positives:
Great Gameplay - fun, fresh, entertaining, lively, challenging guitar licks. the note selection is tougher than GH2 and definately more fun whenever u nail a tricky solo.
Easier controls - the hammer ons and pull offs are slightly easier than Gh2
Good songs - although it takes a while for the boring (but still classic) songs to pass, it is worth the wait for the more modern and sweet songs that make the game what it is

NEGATIVES!!!:
Terrible Band Flow - The band on GH3 is THE WORST I HAVE EVER SEEN. period. its ridiculous how poorly of an effort was put into making the band actually look like they are naturally playing the song. the only thing they worked on was making the singers mouth match the words to the songs, but it was all for nothing because the singer doesn't look like he would be able to sing period, nevertheless sing any of these wicked songs. everytime u play a song and see his face singing in the background u just wanna punch him in the face he's so ugly. he looks like he hasnt showered in weeks and is an embarrassment to GH3. the guitarists may look cool, but they dont even come close to picking the strings. his picking hand just twitches stupidly, and his fretting fingers dont even separate on solos. its embarrassing with the level of technology that we have now to make the actual animation of a game worse that it was in the previous model of Gh2. The bassist doesnt touch his bass either and just looks dumb. but the worst member is BY FAR the drummer. his movements are so jerky a robot would have made smoother beats. its pretty darn bad. KEY: IF GH3 WASN'T SO AWESOME IN THE ACTUAL SKILL AND FUN SECTION, THIS GAME WOULDVE STUNK SO BAD.
Other lame stuff: the annoying quotes during loading times got extra corny this time around. with phrases like "i used to get mad whenever my amp caught on fire, now i kinda dig the tone" and "real guitar players dont sit on the couch" GH3 really embarrassed itself. Also, there are anime clip scenes between cities as ur band progresses through tour are really ridiculously embarrassing as well.

All in All GH3 is probably the most fun GH game out there if you are good at GH and like to play it. As long as u dont look at the ridiculously badly animated background of ur band while playing GH, u will be fine.

O yea, the song Through the Fire and the Flames makes the game worth buying too.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - GH3
Having the previous Guitar Hero games, I was rather looking forward to this one. It is a bit different from the others though. The graphics are different. Characters a bit more flare. Song choices aren't bad. I don't quite like the challenge/face-offs. I also hate that it takes so long to load or save anything. But all in all, it's a fun game.
