Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Guitar Hero 3
This is a great game. The options for careers, multiplayer, the store, the characters, the battles are really good. It's advanced to near perfection for the Guitar Hero experience. Songs are good and challenging. One of my favorites.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Hours of entertainment!
To make things short and simple Guitar Hero 3 is a great game. I personnally think it is better than Guitar Hero 2 and 100 times better Rock of the 80's. There are tons of pretty good bands on here such as; Dead Kennedys, ZZ Top, Guns and Roses, Iron Maiden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Disturbed, Foghat, Pearl Jam, and Santana just to name a few.

You get what you pay for in this one compared to Rock of the 80's. There are 30 songs on that one and I think around 60 on this when you buy the extra songs. There are also more charachters, guitars, videos, etc. The other cool thing is battle mode. When you pass certain songs Slash, Tom Morello, or a devil named Lou will challenge you. Whoever challenges you, you can hit him or he can hit you with various things like double notes (twice the number of notes for a short time), moving you up to a harder level for a short time, and couple of things.

I also like how the notes come up on the screen a little better. It is not really different than the other guitar hero's but, it just seems more fluid. You can play this game for hours and not know where the time went. You may have to stop for a while though because your fingers may hurt.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good ... but could have been so much better.
Ok, so nearly everyone who has owned a PS2 - and now, most recently, a PS3 and/or xBox 360 - during the course of the last several years has undoubably shredded away on their guitar-inspired game controllers to the likes of such great bands as Kiss, The Police, and The Rolling Stones at some point ... all courtesy of Guitar Hero.

In fact, after Guitar Hero's release, it became so popular so quickly that it inspired the creation of two additional, eagerly anticipated sequeals: Rocks of the 80s, and Guitar Hero 2, with Guitar Hero 2 virtually blowing the first game out of the water, in my opinion. So, with the fourth installment on way entitled, "Legends of Rock," you can imagine how high my level of anticipation was over the song gems that I was certain would finally be included. Boy, was I ever dissapointed ...

Don't get me wrong; Guitar Hero 3 IS a good game, and I don't mean to nit-pick ... but, I mean, come on! How can you create a game entitled "Legends of Rock" without including so many rock legends??? Thankfully, many of the old, tried and true favorites ("Rock You Like a Hurricane" by Scorpions, and "Welcome to The Jungle" by Guns N' Roses) are still present for the most part. And, we do finally get to see the addition of a few, new, long-neglected classic bands ("La Grange" by ZZ Top, and "Sunshime of Your Love" by Cream) that, in all honesty, probably should have been privied to a lot more than just one spot a piece on the soundtrack after all this time - but that's another story all together (who is Harmonix Music Systems kidding anyways; only one cover by Clapton?!? The man is the epitome of a rock and roll, guitar-genius!). But, where is Led Zeppelin ... Jimi Hendrix ... ? Even Bon Jovi and AC/DC are still missing, and the list just goes on and on ...

And while I understand that only so many songs could be included on the game, I feel that Harmonix could have easily abandoned some of the lesser known and/or appreciated bands and artists to make room for some of the more highly anticipated and deserving ones they snubbed (Say, a Steppenwolf track instead of a Pearl Jam one, for instance ... ? I mean, no offense to them or anything, but since when is Pearl Jam a "Legend of Rock"??? I doubt there are very many whom would care to try and argue my sentiments on this issue).

Plus, for whatever, reason, the timing in this game just seems to be a little "off" in comparison to the first three installments. That is, the proposed timing for when the notes in the songs should be played doesn't always seem to match the timing with which the notes actually are played. I don't know - maybe it's just me ... or, maybe it's the song choices; some are rather slow-paced in areas. Or, maybe, as speculated, the notes really are just oddly positioned in certain spots. Whatever the case, it makes for a frustrating experience when you're used to synchronization between what you are seeing on screen and what you are hearing in your head.

For the most part though, as I originaly stated, Guitar Hero 3 is a good game with a lot of decent songs and wonderful replay value. So, while I would still recommend that those who are lovers of the Guitar Hero franchise pick it up, I still think it's a shame that what had the potential to be an amazing addition to every gamer's library will probably turn out to be only a mediocre one for most in lieu of the game's said shortcomings. 3.5/5 stars; maybe next time Harmonix will get it right - if there is a "next time" after this flop.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - great family game
this is a great game for the family, my wife does not play video games but i have been woken up a few times a night to her playing or came home from work and there she was. this game is so addictive. i also have a 4 year old little girl who even can play some songs in the pratice mode when i slow it down to the slowest speed which you may think is crazy but i think this game can really help with hand-eye cordination so i would recommend this game to anyone even after beating it i still love to play it even on easy it is still a ton of fun. thanks for reading
