Got this game for granddaughter for Xmas. She loves it and plays every day after school. When her friends come over on weekends, they both play. Great game keeps her on her feet instead of sitting in front of TV.

Being a guitar player, I dismissed the first two games, thinking that it was just silly. Then, I played GH3 at a friend's house and saw how much fun it was. So, I decided to scoop it up soon after getting my PS3.
What I like:
The graphics are stellar. Of course though, they should be. It's for the PS3, after all. They also seem to have captured the essence of guitar playing, without actually playing guitar. The strummer goes up and down, allowing for realistic alternate "picking". The notes on the screen are also seemingly consistent with where you would place your fingers on a real fretboard. Of course, there are only 5 buttons but they manage to still make it challenging enough for some serious gamers.
It was nice to hear some of the bands I listen to, like Metallica, Slayer, Slipknot, Dragonforce, Killswitch Engage and Dead Kennedys. You can also customize the look of your character, as well as your on-screen guitar.
What I didn't like:
While the song list contained some real gems, there will be songs that you either never heard of or don't particularly care for and you will have to play some of them in career mode. It would have been nice to be able to customize the set list. Instead of having to play the songs they give you, they could have given you some more options, like remove this song from the setlist and replace it with that one. That might have been a lot of effort for the people that made the game but I figure that with all the downloadable songs availabe, they could just keep all of those songs in the game automatically and make it possible to choose from them.
It seems the boss battles aren't drawing much popularity from the reviewers here and I have to go with the majority. The problem is, it's not really about skill, it's about luck. You can expect to hit the restart button many times while doing these pointless noodle contests. You can't practice the battles, only the regular songs. Also, even if you are getting good at learning the note succession, that doesn't matter because you have to attack your opponent and try and make him fail. They seem to have missed the point of guitar battles. It's supposed to be about who is more skilled, not who can make your guitar mess up. On a side note, the Tom Morello battle is just plain stupid. He's not even really playing guitar, he's just making sound effects. I know that's his style and all but they could have picked a better, more "guitar hero" sounding player.
Overall, I'm not all that disappointed in this purchase. It's fun to play and it provides an alternative to the traditional games on most consoles. It's just that with the new generation of consoles fresh on the market, I expected it to be leaps and bounds above anything the PS2 ever had to offer.

This is an great product. I bought for my husband, but ended up playing for hours myself. Amazon promised shipping on Christmas Eve, but product arrived 4 days early-what a great company! The only bad thing about this game is that they don't sell the wirelss guitar controller,(or any guitar controller) seperately for the PS3, so head-to-head play is impossible at this time, unless you play over the internet. Just a quick tip-guitar hero 1 and 2 are NOT compatible with PS3, so don't buy them. It's a real bummer too, b/c once you beat guitar hero 3, you'll be itching for new songs to shred on!
