I have always been a huge fan of both the Playstation and of Sony products in general until I purchased the PS3.
I purchased this system in August. Since then I have had to have it replaced two times due to the system not reading discs after a period of time and each system hardly had any use. It takes over a month to get a unit replaced so we have only used our PS3 a dozen times since August.
The graphics are very nice as is the ability to use the system on a wireless network. The hard drive is nice as well.
However, the games are about 60 bucks each and none of the tiles have much wow factor to them. I think Sony took a wrong turn with this system.
While our second system was down I purchased a Wii for my kids. Although the graphics are not up to par with the PS3, the games (surprisingly) have turned out to be far more fun than most of the titles for the PS3, particularly since the Wii has the motion sensitive remotes. That and the games are 10-30 bucks cheaper.
I doubt that when we get our newest PS3 returned to us that we will use it for much more than a Blu-Ray player for our plasma TV.
I would probably not recommend this to anyone unless the prices take a plunge.

This console is great for gaming and Blu Ray disc playback. We have had the PS3 for several months without an issue. Games have great graphics, easy use and setup.

The new 40GB and 80GB PS3 have removed the chips that provide backwards-compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games. They run older games using software emulation which is not the same. The new PS3's also use a proprietary disk drive - unlike the older PS3's that use a SATA disk drive. My suggestion is to buy a 20GB original PS3 and a Seagate Maximus 160GB HDD at 1 1/2 time faster speed. The total cost is about the same as the new 80GB PS3 and you have better hardware with twice the disk space

why get a ps3 when you can get an xbox 360...you can play all the same games + halo3.. if i were you i would get a xbox 360 elite and then a ps3..for the best gaming experience..buy an xbox 360 elite
