A nice product, regardless of what some people say. The 60 gb is of course a champion, due to its hardware based emulation of PSone and PS2 games. Unfortunately the 60 gb is being discontinued due to the various other options Sony has at the moment.

Great console, plays games, movies and free online play. BUT you have to buy the HDMI cable for the best graphics. Preferably the Sony HDMI cable.

I've been a loyal customer of Sony having owned the original Playstation, a Psone with LCD, a PS2, a PSP, and a Playstation 3. I researched before buying and found the 60gb was the best bet for the following reasons.
1. The built-in Emotion Engine (EE) allows it to be backwards compatible for 95% (if not all) of PS1 and 2 games whereas the 40gb/80gb use emulators that need constant updating from Sony via Wireless or USB.
2. You can easily take out the 60gb HDD and upgrade it to a higher capacity.
3. The PS3 60gb version will no longer be manufactured = No more EE.
After 3 weeks of playing there are a few problems I encountered.
1. Memory Cards - If you are buying the console for the first time, you can just skip to #3. I have about 8 memory cards with game saves for the past 10 years. You can either play your old games over again or purchase a memory card adapter (sold separately = $14.99) to transfer saves to the PS3. Make sure you save the receipt because you'll only use it once. Other methods such as using an Action Replay Max+USB will not work because the disk cannot be read.
2. Peripherals - Same as the memory cards. All those controllers, DDR pads, wheels, and things will need a adapter (sold seperately = $17.99) (Even the Wii had controller ports and memory card slots for Gamecube owners.)
3. Operating System is very unstable - I bought Rock Band and was prompted to update. As it was installing, I was given an error! (8002F1B0). Every time I restarted, it would go back to installing and crashing. However, after leaving it on I played a game on the Wii and it went back to normal. Hmm. After a few games of Rock Band I updated once more and it gave me the error again. Yeesh.
I can say the SCEA phone support was very nice and helpful. Since I was experiencing a "System Freeze" they were willing to give me another one since it has only been THREE weeks since I bought it. (Replacement = FREE yay!)
I'm not giving up on this product, it still has a lot to offer with the upcoming GTA and Resident Evil games to look forward to. An extended warranty may be wise. I suppose the firmware update was corrupted (many ps3 users have experienced this since the release) which resulted in getting a replacement. If you already own a PS3 be on the safe side and get the update online and use a USB.

I have all three, and this one has the best potential of any of the rest. Also, the best blu-ray player on the market.
