Blu ray movies are awesome. Games are great. This system works particularly well if you have an HD home theater. I have it connected to my Onkyo rcvr and 1080p tv. The HDMI port makes things very simple.
Online game play is FREE. Get the playstation Eye also.

I got the PS3 60GB day one and haven't been disappointed since. Games were slow to come out, but now I have plenty. Whenever there is down time I always have blu-ray, the playstation network, and being able to stream media from my home computers.

I purchased the 60Gb PS3 this 2007 Christmas. I am not a Online Gamer, but I am a Movie watcher and Shooter/Racing Game player. Online play is not my thing and I believe that most casual gamers who have real lives to live, do not have time for all that Online community stuff. I've got community outside my front door. Get to know your neighbors and you'll find that gaming will take a casual backseat, while still being an awsome playtime activity.
Wireless Features:
- I have been so impressed with the Blue-Tooth Wireless and how easy it has been to set up, that I have just purchased a 2nd 40Gb PS3 for my seperate Gaming TV. I just do not see XBox getting any better, where the PS3 is just scratching the Surface.
High Definition:
- As far as the High Def player war between Blue-ray & HD DVD, it will become overwhelmingly obvious where the future will lie as time goes bye and more PS3's are purchased. The Blockbuster Store has a High Def Guide, which shows that the Blue-Ray is way ahead with 5 Movie Companies and 1 shared company, compared to the HD DVD, with 2 Movie Companies and 1 shared. Also, Blue-ray holds 50Gb vs. 30Gb on HD DVD. Blockbuster carries both, but I believe things will change once more PS3's enter homes. For instance, I already have a DVD Player/Recorder, but the Picture for a Normal DVD Movie is Far better on the PS3 without the Blue-ray. The last note on this is the High Def Sound capability. PS3 supports 7.1 Surround Sound for the ultimate sound for Gaming and Blue-Ray Movies, where the XBox 360 & HD DVD are still at 5.1 Surround Sound.
Movie/Game Disk Insertion, Ejection, & Value:
- I do not know how the XBox handles disks, but with the PS3, you simply place the Game or Movie in the Slot and it sucks it in and when done & you push eject, it pushes it out to be easily handled by adults and children without ever getting a Scratch on the Disks. I am also finding that my kids put them right into the box when finished. On the other hand, they would leave the disks laying all over the place with the PS2. I have purchased all but 1 game used, thru Ebay and every game is in New Condition, while paying 1/2 price. Can't beat that.
Conclusion:
- I have seen and played both Systems and understand the value of each. However, you can purchase a 40Gb PS3 on ebay with 4 games for about $425 including the shipping, so I don't see where folks can't afford the High priced PS3, with so many options already included. The issue I have with the new PS3's is that thay use emulation to play PS2 games and many will not play. Thus the reason that I have 1 of the older with the Hardware necessay to play older games and the newer for my boys who love to play all the new games (Call of Duty 4, Resistance: Fall of man, Heavenly Sword, Oblivion, etc..). Good news about the PS3
The XBox 360 feels very lightweight and cheap. The PS3 is Heavy and Sturdy, which gives you the feel that it is well made. The XBox 360 now has a 3 year warranty to deal with the constant overheating issues. My choice is obviously the PS3. Oh, and I can get Blue-Ray Movies thru my Blockbuster Total Access Mail Movies account. Only Drawback with Blue-Ray and HD DVD movies is their price. $10 more than standard DVD's.

i got the 60 gig before the 80 gig was released. i recomend the 80 gig better value. but besides that the PS3 in any version is awesome. it's the best deal for Blu-ray player. built in wireless except the 20 gig. free playstation network. built in blue tooth. this will takeover as your home theatre hub. oh and remote play with PSP is cool.
