Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GREAT MEDIA STORAGE DEVICE WITH HDMI OUTPU
This is my second 1tb screenplay pro hd multimedia drive. The first one worked right out of box. This one I did have to do a simple firmware update that took abot 5 minutes. I store mainly movies on these and have 240 on one and multible t.v. series on the other. Easy to navigate on screen menu.It is best to really organize your items in folders. For example when paging through movies I have a folder called Vincent price movies with about 10 of his best films in it. This device has a usb port for even more storage. Best to use a usb powered device. I use a 500gb portable hammer storage drive. I am looking into a larger TB device with maybe a home server. Now a days 1 to 3 TB of storage just is not enough. Anyone looking for a way to store and play media on you hdtv and audio system this is the way to go.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good unit that does what I hoped it would do
I got the unit at a higher price ($276) because I wanted it for Christmas (actually for myself, and then immediately got one for my brother). They were hard to find because they had a problem with some units shipping with no or a faulty operating system. Maybe that was some of the problems other people had.

I am writing because I often come to Amazon for legitimate information about products.

I am very happy with the unit so far (2 weeks). I got it so I could view DVD backups (of my own of course, never from the library, or a friend's collection, or borrowed) without compression. It plays the films smoothly, all the features are there (languages, subtitles, etc), and I don't have worry about burning a disk for a dud film (which I don't have to anyway since I only use backups of my own DVD's).

I also got the unit because of video clips I have gotten off of the Internet and I wanted to view them on the TV. Xilisoft video converter (there are other good converters out there also) allows me several different formats to change the files into that can be read on the unit.

I use three different desktop computers, with different variations of XP operating system. They all see the unit reasonably quickly (less than 30 seconds - I am cheap and have older computers) and transfer data to it in a reasonable amount of time (compatible with smaller hard drives).

The unit does take some time to turn off when disconnecting from a computer, probably because it is more than just a hard drive disconnecting.

Other comments are correct in that the remote needs to be pointed almost straight at the unit to work. Not a big issue for me, but apparently so for others. Lots of features on the remote (slow mo, fast speed-dialogue does speed up though, chapters, loop, jump to a timed location).

I am happy to be able to carry the unit into a room, connect it to the TV, and view whichever video clip or file I would like with a minimum of setup and good quality.

I haven't yet used the timer and recording feature with the cable tuner, but I expect to do that definitely by the end of February when transmission goes all digital.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - If you like testing products, this is the one for you!
I bought this device about a week ago and have had a lot of issues since then. This product is NOT ready for public use!

I left the drive on overnight and then I could not turn it off using the remote! I hard to keep the power button on the drive pressed for about 10 seconds to shut it down. It has hung up on me atleast 2 times in the past 3-4 days. This issue is in addition to the following issues I've had with the pro HD

1) wifi USB does not work with WEP or unsecure SSIDs.
2) ability to browse the shared folders on your PC is not guaranteed. You have to try couple of times and if you are lucky you will see your PC.
3) for *.mov extensions it plays the video but not the audio.
4) when connected to my HD TV through an HDMI cable it chooses 480p instead of "auto hdmi" as the video output.
5) Cannot transfer files > 2GB over the network.
6) Remote and the UI in general are very very user unfriendly. You have to point the remote directly at the device for it to respond.
7) Using the soft keyboard to enter username/password is a nightmare. If you have a long username/password then best of luck entering that!
divx VoD *does not work*. This is a pure and simple breach of contract as the device claims to be "divx" certified.
9) cannot map the Iomega to drives on two PCs. If you want it mapped on the second one then you have to disconnect it from the 1st PC.
10) Transferring 1 GB of data is a very very slow process (close to 10 mins).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I like it a lot!
This is exactly the device I was looking for: An external terrabyte hard drive that will play all kinds of media files, including DVD files & high-def movies. This is an improved version over the previous Screenplay, in that the rear connections are better suited for home theater setups. The interface is also improved greatly in look and feel, with some new features, like a DVR/Tivo type of functionality which I have yet to try out. HD video looks amazing, although so far, I've only tried HD movie trailers downloaded from Apple's website. I haven't tried any Blu-Ray content yet as I don't have a Blu-ray drive. I also like the verticle format of the drive, which is small enough for any computer desk or entertainment stand. My only complaint so far is when you hit the "stop" button on the remote, it would be nice if it returned you back to the root level of the folder, rather than 2 folders deep. But that is a very minor complaint- not enough to take away a star. Great product!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Works as advertised
You can not go wrong with this Multimedia Drive from Iomega unless you get a faulty unit. It worked as advertised out of the box.
It plays most video, photo and audio files from 1.) The inbuilt 1TB drive 2.) A usb external drive 3.) From computers and NAS boxes attached to your network. It connects to your Display via HDMI (supplied), component and composite cables and the picture quality is great. It also accept composite input and display the input on your display. You can then chose to record the input. The recordings played on my Windows Media Player without any additional software.
You can transfer files to the Iomega via the network even while playing or recording. You can also use it as NAS and even for backup.
And most importantly the PSU is rated 100-240V. It means you can use it anywhere in the world!
I wouldn't give 5 stars because 1.) The interface is functional but ugly. It is mostly black and no pictures and no way to change that in the present firmware. 2.) The remote have a very narrow angle. You have to aim directly for it to work. 3.) The network transfer is quite slow, about 2Mbps maximum.
Overall, I think is a good buy and I hope that Iomega will improve on the firmware to iron out some of the issues raised above.
