Rating: - Great wireless keyboard/mouse combo!!
First off, let me say I purchase the Microsoft 1000 keyboard/mouse. I got it home, opened it and immediatley packaged it back up for return. It was low quality, the reciever was HUGE and bulky.
LOGITECH S520 - I saw this one on sale for $49.99. Got it home, SUPER easy to hook-up (5 minutes). Its keys are very quiet, thin profiled and it came with 4 Duracell batteries not some off brand battery like you usually get with an electronics purchase.
The best thing about this combo, is the "low battery" lights on the keyboard and mouse so you are not surprised with dead batteries while you are in the middle of something. Also, I like the fact that you can turn the mouse off when not using it to save on batteries.
Very happy with this purchase
Rating: - I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THIS ITEM
I recenty purchased this item from a seller from amazon market place.I am not an expert, this is my first wireless keyboard and mouse.First I could not make up my mind if I wanted to make a purchase from manufactory Microsoft or Logistic. But I must say I am very satified with this purchase and should of went wireless a long time ago. I have been using this system for about over a week, very easy to hook up comes with a factory warranty,so I am very pleased with my purchase. I would recommend this product to anyone.
Rating: - Problem solved by Logitech
We received the Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse and immediately had problems with two keys. They wouldn't transmit unless pressed two or three times. It took about a week for my wife to convince me that it was the keyboard and not her. A call to Logitech with an explanation resulted in a brand new keyboard and mouse with no requirement for sending the old equipment back. We received it yesterday and I'm told that all is well.
Good going Logitech.
Rating: - my favorite keyboard
I order a lot of keyboards for the office and this is currently my favorite. Small, low profile but good key spacing even for folks with large hands. All the bells and whistles at a good price.
Rating: - Good but defective
Note that I don't use the mouse, this is just a review on the keyboard. However the laser mouse is nice, but the laser mouse that comes with the S530 is 10 times nicer.
PROS: Logitech product so you know it's going to be good. Quiet keystrokes, very low profile. Useful and programmable hot keys in meaningful positions. Keyboard isn't cluttered. Stylish USB Wireless connector; it looks good on your desk. Also the connection is quite strong.
CONS: Volume controls are buttons and not a wheel (more of a preference). The delete, home, page up, page down, end keys are formatted differently than most keyboards. The delete key is huge. It just takes some getting used to. Also on the letter keys, like a s f c x v z b n y u i o p there are stupid functions printed on the edge. Like copy, paste, save, etc. The short cuts for ctr+letter. I think it is just very unappealing. You can get over it though.
The palm rest is sort of huge and made of plastic, so often times my palms will get sweaty and slide around. It doesn't really feel good. The palm rest is irremovable.
The wireless receiver has a wire; personally I think it would have been nice if it was just a usb receiver eliminating the wire clutter completely.
I don't know if it was just me, but after about a week, or after a long period of playing WoW, the keys in the WSAD region would start to be unresponsive to light keystrokes that would occur in normal typing. This happened twice, so I don't know if Amazon just had a bad stock or something. I returned all of them to Amazon because of this. I bought the same keyboard from Bestbuy to see if the problem persists. So far it has been fine. However customer service is great, I just wish I didn't have to use them.
OVERALL: If the keyboard would just work, I would be happy with it. But it gave me so much grief returning it and returning it.
In comparison to the S510; the major difference is the keys. For the S510, the keys are rather tall, but the travel distance is about the same or less than the S520. S520 keys are comparable to laptop keys in height and travel. The S510 keys have a more tactile sound to it, whereas the S520 has practically no sound. The hotkeys on the S510 are on the sides of the keyboard, on the S520 they are on the bottom. S510 is more shiny; S520 has a duller finish. Also the hand rest on the S510 is more flat with respect to the keyboard. The S520 palm rest rises above the keys.
