Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Works just fine after update for Vista
First thing to do is update this adapter if you want it to work with Vista. Linksys has instructions on their website. If you have XP it should work out of the box.

I was helping someone install this on a Vista machine over the phone. If you have Vista I would get the newer model that is Vista compatible. It was a little complicated to explain to someone who has never done this before.

We did get it working. It is still working great. The extension cable to set the antenna up high came in handy.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fast, reliable and easy to use...
PRO's:
This is the 2nd Linksys WUSB54G I have bought as I have found them simple to install (see exception below), reliable and they provide great throughput / speed. I use one on an XP machine and the other on a Vista machine, both worth impeccably. Never dropped my WiFi connection (unlike others I have owned) and speed always seems to stay at 54Mbps even when 100ft and 2 floors away from my WiFi base station.

CON's:
Not a biggie, but worth a mention... Instructions placed on top of everything else in the box state to insert the CD and install the drivers before doing anything else... further down in the provided literature and manuals is a note stating VISTA users should not use the CD but download drivers from Linksys! - Not the brightest of moves by Linksys/Cisco. Luck enough I actually spotted the latter note prior to installing the CD based driver. Others may not be so lucky.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Still works great after 6 years.
I've had this adapter for about 6 years now, and it's never given me any problems. I've used it on 2 different desktop computers, and with 8 different wireless routers, in houses and apartments both. The routers were of all different brands, but only 1 of them was a Linksys as well. It's easy to install, and doesn't seem to drop the connection (unless of course it's the router that's having a problem!)

The only issue I've ever had with it? It has to be plugged directly into the computer itself. You can't use a hub with it, it just doesn't work for some reason (though using the adapter cord is fine as long as the cord is plugged into the computer.)

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Solid Connection
This little guy set up easy and connects solid. It is obviously a little bit incovenient to have an external receiver with another usb wire but it's not bad on a desktop if you have room. This is hooked up to my TV PC so I watch Netflix movies over the internet and the connection keeps up no problem at the highest quality available. Downloads and file transfers are also quick. For the price you can't go wrong here.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Linux users beware, probably Mac users too.
I originally had the WUSB54Gv4 Linksys adapter on an XP desktop, which worked okay. Though there was a wall in the way, I wasn't very impressed that it only got a 30% signal from a router 8-9ft away. Then I got sick of windows and installed Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. It took me two weeks to get this thing working, and then when I almost had the driver installed, the computer crashed. Never had any problems with Ubuntu on my laptop, but this was a headache. You can probably find a better product for the same price, just keep looking.

Footnote: While trying to find drivers, I stumbled into several other owners with similar problems, and one posted a letter from Linksys in response to an inquiry about Linux support, and Linksys replied that this product was intended for Windows, no Linux or Mac.
