Amazon.com Review: Followers of the enormous Tokyo pop franchise that is Gundam will probably get their kicks from its first appearance on the PS2. However, the game's many bad design issues will keep this giant robot blaster from moving its appeal from cult phenom status to mainstream hit.
The action takes place during Gundam's famous One Year War. For Gundam neophytes, there's plenty of cinemas and background info to help get you up to speed. Sadly, controlling your top-of-the-line mech is frustrating because of clumsy controls. While it's easy to pound stationary targets, mobile enemies are disturbingly hard to keep targeted. Also, hand-to-hand combat is both boring and cumbersome.
The graphics, while not spectacular (the explosion effects are cool), do a decent job of rendering large battlefields, and the mechs look similar to their toy counterparts. The full-motion video cutscenes are nice enough to keep die-hards playing, if only to see how the story moves along.
For Gundam fanatics, Mobile Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaburo is a decent time waster that lets you live the war you already love. For everyone else, though, this is a mediocre blaster that shows us that the definitive mech game has yet to arrive on the PS2. --Mark Brooks
Pros:
Gundam finally comes to the PS2
Decent graphics deliver the look of the cartoons and toys
Plenty of background info and short cutscenes for initiating newbies to the Gundam universe
Cons:
Painfully frustrating, complex, and inaccurate controls
Hand-to-hand mech combat is bland and slow
Amazon.com Product Description: Mobile Suit Gundam: Journey to Jaburo brings the huge robotic mobile suits of the Gundam animated series to the PlayStation2. This release mixes action with strategic play, and incorporates enhanced cutscenes from the animated series.
Faithful to the series, game time begins in Universal Century 0079. At Side 7, an earth outpost, there's been a devastating conflict with Zeon forces and their massive mobile suits. You play as Amuro Ray, a young student and survivor, who unwittingly becomes a mobile suit pilot to help the beleaguered White Base ship return home. Along the way, there will be minions of Zeon mobile suits to battle and a host of strategic maneuvers to make.

Rating: - Jaburo is the best
Journey to Jaburo is a very fun & a hard game but is really easy at first.
Rating: - LONG GAME,BUT FUN!!
This was my first game to ever get on my PS2.It was a very good game to start people up.The gameplay is kind of complicating. You have to know when to change weapons and dodge. The biggest part of the game is protecting your allys.IT IS IMPORTANT TO PROTECT YOUR ALLIES.If you don't GAME OVER.I was quite disturbed with the graphics. It wasn't good but wasn't bad either. It was kind of fuzzy. On the last level,it will take a very, very long time to beat.To finally beat JOJ,it took me one year! The godd thing is,after you beat the game. You get many mobile suits.MANY mobile suits. Some are not in the game at first but you'll have fun.It would be best to rent it first.
Rating: - Good game once you get the hang of it.
Unfortunatly, I have not had the luxury of playin many other Gundam games, but this one is nothing short of amazing. I don't understand peoples troubles with the controls; once you get the hang of it you can pretty much move like the guys in the show (and a bit more even). Try boosting left or right during a jump, you can sneak behind enemies and blast them. Anyway, the graphics were rather good considering the release date, and the sound is top notch. The anime cutscenes also look superb. Also it can be challenging to unlock all the extras. I highly recommend this game to any fan of the One Year War or any giant fighting robot otaku.
Rating: - jaburo
gundam - jurney to jaburo is a really fun game [even though i don't own it]even though you have to play for the earth federation space force. The game starts from the begining of inside side seven to inside jaburo were you have to fight char and he leaves you with that giant zock [i do regreat beating up char]. But this game is pretty fun on account you get to kick tin can as you you play as Amuro Ray! Each level contains parts of the gundam series! You can spend hours on this game and love it. You can fight Char,Ramba, and more. I encourage you to buy or at lest rent this game cause it ROCKS!!! [PS.FEDERATION VS. ZEON IS WAY BETTER THOUGH]
