Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Can't say enough about this game....
I had just started playing rpg's when I picked this one up, it was probably my third or fourth rpg that I played. I absolutely fell in love with this game the moment it started. I never played the orignal or second on the Sega CD.

Storyline: What can I say, its your typical boy loves girl, girl gets kidnapped and boy saves world and girl. Fortunately, rpg's are great not because of the story but how the story is told and Working Designs did a brilliant job in the storytelling. They took the story and put a few twists here and there but not to the extreme or completely insane, they left it a simple story and made it an epic masterpiece. Lastly, this game has one of the most memorable villians in an rpg to date. Ghaleon is a great villian who has a great background story that unfolds extremely well during the game and in my eyes he ranks right up there with Sephiroth.

Combat system: For whatever reasons Working Designs left it simple and turn based and keeping to the sprites instead of trying to make the fights 3-D. With games like FFVII, Legaia and others going 3-D this gave a lot of ridicule to the game itself, a very unfortunate thing too. It was nice for the characters to have only certain things they could do, like Alex could only use special sword attack and no magic as where Jessica could only use magic. It kept the fighting more tactical and also made everyone in the group important and not just a space filler.

Graphics: Working Designs kept to the sprites and kept it looking a 32 bit rpg. They did do something to keep the story moving along with anime clips, wonderfully done by the way, which they used to introduce characters and to help the storytelling.

Music: The battle music gets repetitive and so does the traveling music as I think they could've done a better job in that department. The voice acting was done really well but the women's voices do get a bit high pitched at times and it happens to the guys on occasion.

The characters were developed nicely, each having their own background story which adds to your liking and caring about each of your character in your party. You can easily put 50+ hours in the game and also there are whats called Bromides to collect. Bromides are anime pictures in the game which you can collect throughout your travels-I believe there are 12 in all.

Extras Disc: I watched it and enjoyed the voice actors and developers talking about how much fun they had making the game and what they did to add what they thought would help the game out.

This game despite its old-school graphics and traditional fighting system gets a 5 out of 5 for its wonderful story and loveable characters.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - AMAZING
This is one of my favorite games of all time. While it is true that the graphics do not equal chrono cross or the FF series, I find that part of the charm. Better were the days when emphasis was placed on a great story and endearing characters rather than upgraded graphics. I may be a dork, but I actually like the soundtrack and have the song from the opening scene memorized. This is one of a handful of games (including the Arc the Lad Collection and Lunar 2: Eternal Blue) that I feel truly deserves to be called a collector's edition.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Supernintendo Graphics made up for by story and cut scenes
Lunar is my favorite RPG game of all time! What it lacks in battle graphics it makes up for in story line as well as cut scene animation. Lunar provides players with a fulfill storyline and several plat twists. This is one of the few RPG's that will truly make you care about all the characters in your party, not just Alex (the hero). Very few RPG's take the time to develop all characters and maintain an intriguing storyline. The animation for cut scenes will have you watching again and again. This is not your average boy saves girl RPG!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Possibly the best game I've ever played
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete has to be the best game I've ever played. It has amazing gameplay, breath-taking music, memorable characters and a mighty fine presentation to wrap it all up. Lunar: Silver Star Story is the story of young Alex, a boy from a small village called Burg who looks up to a world-saving hero, Dragonmaster Dyne. One day, his friend Ramus suggests that they go to the "White Dragon's Cave" to find and claim a legendary Dragon Diamond, and Alex and his friends are swept into a fantastic adventure.

Each minute of this game is interesting. While playing, I laughed, I smiled, I frowned, I cried, I screamed. I felt every emotion possible during the 40 hours I spent first playing the game, and the second playthrough was no different. Very different from classical roleplaying games, yet so much better.

Lunar is a must-have for all RPG fans.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A lost classic
*Please note I am reviewing Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, they are basically the same games, but just with a few new additions. Thank you*

Every once in a while the classics return updated. Working Designs has done a phenomenal job restoring the classic Lunar: Silver Star onto the Playstation as Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete. The game is very enjoyable and while the game is considerably short compared to other RPGs, it works well. The dungeons test the level of your characters but never exhaust them into a need to train excruciatingly to move from place to place which is the type of flow that is much needed to enjoy an RPG rather than just play it. Also the inclusion of ability to use the joy pads makes moving easier than pressing down on the control pad.
The artwork and cut scenes are done beautifully, however the majority of the time the game characters are sprites. The gameplay is enjoyable but if you don't have the patience or want to strategize you will find yourself throwing down your controller, dying, or asleep. The game itself never is frustrating if you take the time to train your team and not just run from every threat. Each boss has strengths and weaknesses and if you take the time to observe them you can defeat them without much of a problem, but not to say they are easy. Though no one boss will kill off your entire party with just one blow.
The writing is some of the best I've ever seen in a game. The sharp wit of the characters and comedic dialogue is balanced so well that it never gets stale or reused. The game can also be very serious to the point you can relate your own emotion to the characters to laugh and even cry with them while playing this game. The cut scenes are something you will look forward to rather than just wish you can skip from the rich opening to the enjoyable ending.
However this game was made back in 1999. While it can be pretty to look at, if you are a fan of rich cell shaded 3-D environments and characters... well lets just say the game never looks better than the animé on Saturday mornings. It also can get tedious, as some dungeons seem to go on and on and on...
Even with some of its shortcomings, RPG veterans and those new to the series should pick up this title for a good time. Lunar: Silver Star Story is the lost classic and sleeper hit of the end of the millennium. I proudly give a game that has become my favorite a perfect score.
