Editorial Review:
Gran Turismo is the new definition of a great racing game. With wonderful graphics, TV-like replays, and an entire host of cars to chose from, this instant classic goes beyond a driving game into the realm of driving simulator. You can choose between the arcade version (featuring classic cars such as Corvettes and Aston Martins) or the simulation, which is the true heart of the game. The simulation starts you on an entire racing career beginning with a cheap used car and second-rate tracks. You will find yourself longing for the Dodge Viper as your sad $10,000 starting fund puts you behind the wheel of a used Honda Prelude or Mazda RX-7. As you win races, acquire money, and earn advanced licenses, you are able to buy better cars and race in more competitive matches right up to the GT World Cup.

Complete with cunning renditions of actual car models and a very playable interface, this game is great for the serious racing simulation fan and the casual gamer. It promises instant action and the kind of gradual advancement that keeps gamers playing for weeks. While the license tests can be hard, the fun track design and sheer number (140-plus) and variety of cars to choose from makes this an exciting race experience. --Allen Stewart

The item is'broken'

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The reason I left Nintendo
First of all I am from Guatelama, back then in 1998, I was saving to get my nintendo 64 system. But one day my older brother, went to a videogame store planning to by the 64 with Mario. I had already sold my SNES, and i was just waiting to begin collecting stars. Then when my bro came by, He was carrying a bag with a Playstation Box and a rare game called Gran Turismo.

I was really mad, until he connected it, and when the Sony logo appeard, I was shocked, sound, graphics etc, from the video of Gran Turismo the presentation, to my first race, that was it, I forgot everything about nintendo, except of Killer Instinct, but thats how it started.

The other Gran Turismos are obviolusly better, but this is the one that made the leap. like, MGS, FFVII, and all those awesome PS1 games that changed how we play right now. Gran Turismo is that kind of game that not everyone loves, specially the arcade ones, but its simply amazing. The best of its kind and time.

By that time a NFS normaly had no more than 15 - 20 cars, and this changed it forever with more than 160 cars. If you want a realistic experience buy a PS3 and Gran Turismo 5, and after that you'll want to have the collection. I have passed the 5 of them, including the prologue, it takes time, but that why i am paying.

Characteristics:

+ 160 cars and customizable, first time in history
11 detailed tracks
real Phisics
Best racing graphics until Gran Turismo 2 and so on.
most realistic control until....GT2 and so on too
The best quaility in menus, and a revolutionary simulation mode, also an arcade mode.
First time ever replays and to save you replay too.
Simply a classic.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - It's not a bad racing game, but doesn't deserve a 5 star rating
this game is just decent, even back when it was first released there were comparable racing games made for sony and even other systems. I would have put 3 stars, but I don't want people thinking this game is perfect therefore I must give it 1 stars. instead of 3 stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Solid racer
This game does seem a bit lacking after playing the other games in the franchise, but holds up well if you don't mind the graphics.

Buyer beware. Watch out for copies that don't read Greatest hits on. Seems there was a bug that wouldn't allow you to get 100% in the game. These copies alway have been known to wipe out your garage.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A 6-Star Game
This is one of the best games I have ever played. If there was a 6-star rating on this, I would choose it. This is an 6-Star game and it really is. Just about everything is rated 10 out of 10 for me. The only thing that wasn't a 10 was the car choices, which was 9.7, and the graphics, which was 9.3. Now the car choices to me are a perfect 10. Here are my ratings: Gameplay - 10, Challenge - 10, Car Choices - 10, Course Choices - 10, Graphics - 9.3, Overall: 9.86. I want to thank all the people that made this game for creating it, and myself for rating it an overall 9.86. There's another one out there. I know it. And when I beat this game, I will get Gran Turismo 2. But that's another story. Thanks again!
